our home

the house we imagined

A family home transformed, level by level, into a place for learning, sharing and experiencing Costa Rica together.

La Casita began with a simple question: could an ordinary home become a place where people from different parts of the world could live, learn and discover Costa Rica together?

Rather than starting with an empty piece of land, we chose to transform the home we already had. We expanded upward, followed the natural slope of the property and gradually created spaces for resting, studying, cooking, gathering and spending time outdoors.

Every part of the house was designed around the experience we wanted to create.

Level 01 — Rest & Study

The upper level was created as the quietest part of the residence—a place to rest, read, study and prepare for the experiences of the following day.

The rooms are intentionally simple and comfortable. They were designed to offer participants privacy while preserving the shared character of residential learning.

Level 02 — Cook & Gather

We wanted food to be visible, participatory and connected to the experience.

The open-air kitchen was designed not only for preparing meals, but also for cooking workshops, demonstrations, conversations and the everyday rituals that naturally bring people together.

Here, a recipe can become a language lesson, an introduction to local ingredients or simply an evening shared around the table.

Level 03 — Rest & Connect

Learning also needs pauses.

This level was designed for unstructured moments: reading beside the pool, talking after class, resting in a hammock or simply enjoying the afternoon light.

These spaces remind us that meaningful experiences are not created only through planned activities. Sometimes they emerge naturally when people have time and room to be together.

Level 04 — Grow & Discover

At the lower end of the property, the garden brings the experience back to the land.

It is a small, evolving space where participants can encounter herbs, edible plants and ingredients connected to Costa Rican cooking and everyday life.

Like La Casita itself, the garden is still growing. It was never intended to be purely decorative, but to become another place for observation, participation and learning.

Indoor and outdoor living

Costa Rican life is closely connected to the outdoors. For that reason, terraces, gardens, open-air areas and natural light became essential parts of the design.

Small-scale by intention

La Casita was designed for small groups. Its size allows the experience to remain personal, flexible and closely connected to the people who live and learn here.
